SprezzaturaLab is a place where we can shape the weirder parts of history and share them.

A lot of the work starts with something that catches my attention in a historical source, artifact, recipe, game, or claim. Then I want to know what it actually means in practice. How was it made? Does the process work? What happens if you follow the instructions? What can we reasonably reconstruct, and where does the evidence stop?

That usually means doing the work.

Make the thing. Play the game. Distill the material. Carve the board. Mix the recipe. Break something occasionally. Figure out why.

I come at that work with a scientific mindset: separate evidence from interpretation, document the choices, pay attention to uncertainty, and treat failure as information instead of something to hide.

The goal is not to pretend we can perfectly recreate the past. We usually can't. The goal is to get close enough to ask useful questions, be honest about the compromises, and leave enough documentation that someone else can understand what happened and try it themselves.

The projects wander wherever curiosity takes them: historical games, perfumery, alchemy, natural philosophy, woodworking, leatherwork, martial arts, strange medicinal preparations, and other things that probably seemed like a reasonable idea at the time.

Some become finished experiments. Some stay on the bench for a while. Some are still just ideas waiting for the right source, material, tool, or opportunity.

That is SprezzaturaLab.
